Introduction from the CEO
It continues to be a priority for Modern Milkman (the “Company”) to ensure that we trade ethically, source responsibly and work to prevent modern slavery and human trafficking throughout our organisation and in our supply chain. This statement highlights the key activities we have undertaken during this financial year to combat modern slavery in our organisation and supply chain.
Organisation’s structure
We are a UK based grocery delivery scale up in the food and beverage sector. We are the parent company of: (i) TMM Last Mile Ltd; and (ii) MM Logistique FR, which, together with the Company, form our group (“Group”). The Group has over 100 employees and operates in the United Kingdom. The Group has a global annual turnover of £46,000,000.
The Group has 130,000 customers based in the United Kingdom and operates in various cities across the UK. We estimate that our operations have saved over 30 million plastic bottles from landfill in the last 12 months.
Our business
Our business is organised into several business functions with Executive Leadership Team (“ELT”) and Senior Leadership Teams (“SLT”) overseeing our commercial and operational activities.
In February 2023, we changed our leadership structure with a view to devolving more critical business decision making to key stakeholders within our SLT. Our SLT oversees many of our key functions, including People Management, Legal, Product, Supply Chain and more. The SLT works with the ELT to tackle business critical challenges, define business rhythms and milestones and develop our cultural and operational working practices.
Our supply chains
Our supply chains include over 50 suppliers, supplying over 150 products of which 40% use reusable packaging. We combine regional and local producers to create hyperlocal supply chains with the majority of our suppliers based in the North of England.
Our policies on slavery and human trafficking
Statement from our COO:
“As a company, we actively look to treat our suppliers and people as we expect to be treated, with respect, humility and fairness. We actively look to improve the impact we have on the world including through all of our supplier chains which we aim to keep as local as possible to support our mission of resetting the throwaway society. We continue to challenge this through the development and monitoring of commercial and supplier agreements”.
Dominic Williams COO, Modern Milkman
We have appropriate policies in place that underpin our commitment to ensure that there is no modern slavery or human trafficking in our supply chains or in any part of our business. We continuously review and update all our policies.
Our Modern Slavery Policy reflects our commitment to acting ethically and with integrity in all our business relationships and to implementing and enforcing effective systems and controls to ensure slavery and human trafficking is not taking place anywhere in our supply chains. We also have the following policies in place relevant to modern slavery, which we continuously review and update:
- Supplier Code of Conduct. – setting out the standards we expect suppliers to meet to maintain their relationship with us;
- Whistleblowing Policy; and
- Anti-Bribery and Corruption Policy.
Due diligence processes for slavery and human trafficking
We understand that our logistics and supplier networks give rise to the highest modern slavery risks. As part of our initiative to identify and mitigate risk we plan to survey all suppliers and delivery partners on an annual basis.
Training
To ensure a high level of understanding of the risks of modern slavery and human trafficking in our supply chains and our business, we will introduce regular training to our staff. We will also require our business partners to provide training to their staff and suppliers and providers.
Further steps
Following a review of the effectiveness of the steps we have taken this year to ensure that there is no slavery or human trafficking in our supply chains we intend to take the following further steps to combat slavery and human trafficking: implementing a metric focused tracking mechanism to allow us to accurately gather data and assess the impact of our modern slavery and anti-trafficking initiatives.
This statement is made pursuant to section 54(1) of the Modern Slavery Act 2015 and constitutes our Group’s slavery and human trafficking statement for the financial year ending 31 December 2022. It was approved by the board on October 4 2023.
