Some of you will have seen the Arla, Bovaer® Trials, in the media. Bovaer® is a feed additive that reduces enteric methane emissions from cows. This is currently being trialed across several farms in the UK which supply major supermarkets. It’s too early for us to comment either way on the merits or disadvantages of these trials. We are watching to see what the results are.
Our current suppliers do not use Bovaer® but like many industries, the dairy industry is at a crossroads, facing the dual challenge of meeting consumer demand while reducing its environmental footprint.
Our independent farms adhere to sustainable farming methods. We ensure we pay our farmers fairly to enable them to farm in a sustainable way. Whether that’s keeping land purely for re-wilding, re-planting hedgerows, using silage for biofuel and many other initiatives to reduce methane emissions.
By having direct access to all our supply chains, we can ensure they are tightly managed, with traceable ingredients.
