Whilst the reindeer might pull the sleigh, we’re the ones lining Santa’s stomach and fueling him for the night ahead. Christmas Eve plates for Santa have typically consisted of mince pies and brandy, but with millions of homes around the world all giving him treats, we’re starting to worry about his digestion. And of course all that alcohol. Christmas could be a pretty sad affair if Santa was behind bars with an FUI (flying under the influence).
So, we’ve asked you, ‘What do you leave for Santa on Christmas Eve?’ to see if we can throw out a few new ideas to put a little less pudding and a little more balance on his plate this year. After all, there’s only so much pastry one man can eat.
What do you leave for Santa on Christmas Eve?
We’ve sent the elves out and they’re back with the stats on your Christmas Eve plates for Santa. It seems he’s getting pretty well-fed when he shimmies down your chimneys. So, what do you leave for Santa on Christmas Eve?
39% of people are keeping things traditional with mince pies; 12% with a glass of brandy and 63.4% with a type of milk (more on that later). However, 17% are leaving their sweet treats in the form of cookies, which is where we need to crumb together and agree that considering the number of homes he’s visiting that’s a pretty sugar-heavy evening.
Consider leaving a spare bag of crisps on your Christmas Eve plate for Santa this year. It’ll be a nice salty break from all those treats and give him something to soak up all the alcohol. After all, you don’t want a boozy Santa making a mess of your living room. Or, even worse, sleeping on the job!
Don’t drink and fly
As we’ve already seen, 12% of people are leaving Santa a glass of brandy on Christmas Eve, but what are the rest of you topping his glass with?
Out of the 250 people our elves surveyed, 36.4% said they leave Santa alcohol. This is less than half the houses, so we’re feeling hopeful that he won’t be over the limit. Plus, the skies are pretty quiet at that time of night.
In an air of sophistication, 4.4% leave the big guy a glass of wine. And as you’ve probably got a bottle of your parents’ favourite red already open, we’re sure they won’t mind sharing a glass with Santa. Whisky comes next on the list at 9.6% – a perfect winter warmer that’ll help him through a cold December night and see him rockin’ around the Christmas tree in no time. And coming in as the second most popular tipple for Santa is beer at 10.4%.
If you are planning on leaving Santa a little beverage to help see him through the night, we recommend leaving a little glass of whatever you have in. This is a great waste-saving alternative to buying a new bottle.
And for those of you who are still concerned about flying under the influence, we’ve got a fantastic range of no and low alcohols that will see everyone enjoying the festive cheer without a not-so-festive hangover.
Rudolph the red nosed reindeer
Rudolph the red-nosed reindeer, had a very shiny nose. And if you ever saw him, you would even say it glows! And we’re not surprised, because 82 out of the 250 people our elves surveyed are leaving carrots on their Christmas Eve plates for Santa. So next time someone tells you to eat carrots to see better in the dark, listen up!
But that’s not where the love for Rudolph ends. 13.6% of people are leaving him special reindeer food. Not got any of this in your pantry? Fear not! We’ve heard that he’s partial to any vegetables, so feel free to use what you’ve got!
Public Service Announcement from the North Pole
It appears that Santa’s dreams of a white Christmas are a reality because a whopping 63.4% of people leave him a glass of milk or milk alternative on Christmas Eve. 53% are choosing cow’s milk, whilst 10.4% are opting for oat drink.
In case you’re scratching your head and wondering, ‘But what’s Santa’s choice?’, you’re in the right place. Our cheeky chief elf has a PSA from the North Pole: Santa’s choice is silver top whole milk.
Creamy silver top milk helps to fill Santa’s stomach and keep him on task all night long.
With vast quantities of dairy, sweet treats and alcohol, it’s no wonder Santa has to visit in the dead of night. Or that his sleigh can fly. It’s more likely that Christmas wind propels him around the globe, rather than the Christmas spirit.
