World Food Day
Join the global movement on World Food Day, October 16th, as we come together to tackle hunger and build a future where everyone has access to nutritious food. Discover how you can make a difference in your community and be part of the solution!
What is World Food Day?
Established by the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) in 1979, World Food Day was created to raise awareness and take action against worldwide hunger and malnutrition. Since its inception, World Food Day has been celebrated in over 150 countries, highlighting the importance of sustainable agriculture and food production to address global food challenges.
World Food Day is an opportunity to come together as a global community and work towards a world where no one goes to bed hungry. Why don’t you join in on October 16th, and help provide a platform for individuals, communities, organisations and governments worldwide to unite in the fight against hunger and malnutrition?
How can I get involved in World Food Day?
- Learn about food challenges: educate yourself about global food issues, insecurity and sustainable agricultural practices.
- Support food banks: why not donate non-perishable food items to local food banks? This could be jam, tea, coffee, chocolate, tinned tomatoes and more. You could even volunteer your time to help distribute food to those in need.
- Reduce food waste: be mindful of food waste in your household and community. What are the foods you keep throwing away and how can you change that?
- Organise food drives: coordinate food drives or fundraising events to collect resources for those facing food insecurity.
- Support farmers: buy our locally sourced and sustainably produced food products to support small-scale farmers and sustainable agriculture.
World Food Day serves as a vital reminder of the importance of food security and sustainable practices in our global community. By raising awareness and taking action, we can help combat hunger and promote healthy diets for all. Letβs celebrate this day not just by acknowledging the issue, but by committing to making a difference in our own lives and communities, ensuring that everyone has access to nutritious and delicious food!
