We’re super excited to share that our Modern Milkman Founder and CEO Simon Mellin was a guest on the Riding Unicorns podcast; the go-to podcast about venture capital and growth start-ups hosted by two venture capitalists, James Pringle and Hector Mason.
Simon joins James and Hector to chat through the highs and lows of the Modern Milkman journey sharing how growing up in the farming and food industries shaped his outlook on our need to reset the way we approach food along with discussing how Modern Milkman was inspired by watching David Attenborough’s ‘Blue Planet’.
Winding back nearly 6 years it all began when four friends bought a milk round in Lancashire, got out on the road at night and ‘learnt by doing’ delivering milk. 18 months into the journey Covid-19 came along; supercharging Modern Milkman into the national business we know today; leveraging tech to modernise this 20th century British institution and connect our Milkies to our customers and communities up to 3 times a week.
The podcast also delves into the biggest mistakes, wins and future plans for both sides of the Atlantic (not to mention the crazy story of coincidence involving 5th generation farmer Seth Bahler who founded Modern Milkman US in Ellington, CT at the very same time as the UK business began), and of course ended with the Riding Unicorns classic question ‘Which 3 people you’d invite to a dinner party?’
