At the heart of local communities, Hubbub brings local groups and organisations together, driving campaigns with a simple mission in mind: making it easier and more attractive to do the right thing. From reducing electronic waste and digital isolation with Community Calling, through to tackling cigarette litter with the Ballot Bin, there are plenty of environmental issues Hubbub have jumped in to solve right outside our front doors. We are now proud to share our new partnership with Hubbub with our very own Modern Milkman community.
Who is Hubbub?
Hubbub is an award-winning creative charity that inspires action that’s good for the environment and for everyone. Since 2014, they’ve been bringing businesses, organisations, local authorities and community groups together to create campaigns that make it easier for all of us to make choices that are good for the environment.
Their approach is not only innovative but also inclusive, gathering insights and testing solutions across lots of communities in the UK, ensuring that everyone can play a part in caring for our planet and ultimately driving behaviour change. Hubbub’s not only got a knack for getting people to care—but more importantly, to do something about it.
The Community Fridge Network and Reducing Waste
One of Hubbub’s standout initiatives is the a network of community groups scoordinated by Hubbub where people share food and prevent it from going to waste. It’s a startling thought that a third of all food produced globally is wasted and more needs to be done to tackle this global issue. These community fridges are an amazing scheme to do so. Not only that, but they have also become the heart of their local community where people can learn how to grow and cook food, as well as meet up and drop in for a chat.
In 2023, the network:
- Saved over 7,500 tonnes of food waste
- Shared 17.8 million meals worth of food
- Provided a welcoming space for over 600,000 people, empowering communities and creating social connections
In partnership with Co-op the Community Fridge Network has grown to over 650 fridges across the UK. These fridges are stocked with surplus food from local businesses and individuals, accessible to everyone in the community. It’s about more than just food; it’s about community bonding, sharing, and caring for each other all the while reducing waste.
How can I get involved?
Sound like a charity you want to get behind? We agree! Supporting their work is simple; in August, for every friend you introduce to Modern Milkman, we will donate £5 to Hubbub. We have set ourselves an ambitious target of £2,500 and each referral counts. By referring your friends, family, colleagues or neighbours to Modern Milkman, you will be doing so much to support community-driven environmental initiatives, all while also sharing your love for fresh goodies delivered to the doorstep!
