Community Compost Competition Terms and Conditions Key Points

Taking part in the initiative  

  • – The initiative is open to all primary schools across England  
  • – Schools can enter for free  
  • – All entries must be submitted via a page on the Modern Milkman blog.  
  • – The opening date for entries is 9:00 on Monday 21st February. The closing date to enter is Midnight on Sunday 13th March. Entries received after this time will not be counted or considered  
  • – Up to twenty schools will be shortlisted.  
  • – Shortlisted schools will be chosen based on their location (one for each area that we operate in) and reasons for wanting to take part in the initiative  
  • – Winning schools will be contacted via email  
  • – Each school that is shortlisted will receive a compost heap that will be delivered to their grounds and information and help on how to compost and why it’s important 
  • – Please allow up to 14 days after being notified to receive the compost heap  
  • – Winners agree to take part in the composting initiative, adding any waste (e.g. food waste, grass cuttings) produced to their heap – it is the school’s responsibility to ensure they are adding to the heap (with guidance provided by Modern Milkman)  
  • – Schools should also be happy to be mentioned in press releases  
  • – Select schools will be chosen to have photographs taken that will be used on the Modern Milkman’s website, social media channels, and issued to media (release forms will be used in order to gain parental permission)
  • – Schools agree to take part in the initiative for at least 6 months  

Competition and Prize  

  • – A cash prize of £3k will be awarded to the school taking part in the initiative that has added the most waste to their compost heap 
  • – The prize money must be put towards an eco-friendly initiative that should be proposed by the school in the entry phase, this could include: 
  • 1. Installation of allotments to grow herbs and veg 
  • 2. Planting of trees and shrubs to reduce CO2 and decrease air pollution 
  • 3. Sustainability training for teachers and students 
  • 4. Better recycling facilities 
  • – This will be judged via imagery of the heap which will be taken by the school and sent into Modern Milkman, as well as diary entries which will record all waste that is added 
  • – Imagery and video footage of the winning school will be captured on the day the prize is awarded, which will be used on the Modern Milkman’s website, social media channels, and issued to media (release forms will be used in order to gain parental permission)
