Win £3k for Your School with our Composting Competition

Written by Justin Thompson

Are you passionate about sustainability? Enter our competition for the chance to win £3000 for your primary school!

What’s it about?

Here at Modern Milkman, we’re passionate about reducing waste and want to help future generations learn the importance about sustainable acts like composting. So, we’re inviting primary schools to register for our competition! There’s 20 places up for grabs, and you’ll even be sent a free compost bin to get started.

The winning primary school will receive £3000 to be used towards an eco-initiative at their school. Think: installation of allotments to grow fresh herbs and veg, planting trees and shrubs to reduce CO2 and decrease air pollution, sustainability training for teachers and students, better recycling facilities – really anything that can help your school become more sustainable!

Why composting?

We all know we produce too much waste (and we’ve got full bins to prove it). And while we try to do our bit, there’s still a lot of waste that ends up in landfill – like kitchen scraps, cut flowers, and other types of organic matter.

While this organic matter does breakdown in landfill, it undergoes a different kind of chemical process. This process ends up releasing a biogas that’s 50% methane and 50% CO2, aka those harmful greenhouse gasses that are contributing to climate change. Composting removes this process, and helps the organic matter break down naturally, giving you nutrient rich soil without the harmful gasses. We want to help you turn your bins to blooms.

How to enter

Before applying, please ask your head teacher for permission. Then, fill out the form below with your details, your primary school’s details and why we should choose your school to take part, and we’ll be in touch. Don’t worry, you won’t be in this alone. We’ll support you along the way and provide you with helpful composting tips and tricks to share with your classes.

Please be aware, entries close Midnight on Sunday 13th March.

So, what’s the prize again?

The winning primary school will receive £3000 towards an eco-initiative. During the competition, our Waste Warrior champions (winning school) will be picked based on the amount of waste added to their compost heap, measured by diary entries. Classes will be asked to keep a tally to submit, along with an image of their compost heaps for us to assess.

We can’t wait for the competition to kick off and see what you and your classes compost.
